Philippine Independence

Posted in lifestyle, others, views on June 14, 2010 by rebelhunt

Let’s be real here, most Filipinos today don’t even know the value of Independence day anymore. Don’t get me wrong, I’m one of those people who don’t think much about Independence day as well, not until this Independence weekend. I was spending the weekend at the condo of one of my bandmates and, while surfing through the channels on the television came across the movie Jose Rizal on GMA 7. It starred Cesar Montano and a wide array of famous Filipino celebrities.

I never really enjoyed home grown movies but I found myself stuck and watching the story of Philippines’ National Hero. It was really weird because I was watching what I used to sleep on during my high school days. History was never one of my favorite subjects.

For the first time I guess, I saw the oppression we went through during the time of the Spaniards. It was also a treat to see Crisostomo Ibarra / Simoun come to life thanks to actor Joel Torre who did the character justice. There I saw the passion and frustrations of Jose Rizal while fighting to free us from the grips of the Spaniards.

It’s a shame that most, if not all Filipinos have forgotten what our forefathers did to get our Independence. Now I call on all Filipinos to once again fight for Independence, not from foreign oppression, not from outside threats, but Independence from our corrupt and greedy government officials. Too long have our country been in the jaws of leaders who only think of their welfare.

Too long have these officials enjoyed the good life at our expense. For us to be truly free, we need to change the system to a system that works not only for those who hold power, but for everyone. Let’s make our Independence day mean something again.

That annoying thing called Love……

It’s funny… I have to admit that even though I try to avoid it I keep searching for it at the same time. Now that it’s here I’m not really sure what I should be doing because it’s driving me insane. What am I talking about? I’m talking about LOVE of course. I consider myself very unlucky when it comes to love that’s why I try to avoid it as much as possible because I almost always end up as a torn up, love struck idiot by the gutter and it’s not one of the best feelings believe me. However I found myself at the throws of love’s arms once again when I met this girl a few weeks back. I don’t know if there’s such a thing as love at first sight but I was totally taken when I glanced in her eyes.

Waterspout off Manila Bay May 27, 2009

Here in the Philippines we rarely get any freak weather phenomenon, and it’s a really big surprise if we did. Well, that surprise sure did happened yesterday at Manila Bay. People were both alarmed and amazed at this spectacle, which lasted about a couple of minutes. I was amazed and at the same time scared when I saw this. It was a good thing that the waterspout remained over water and didn’t decide to move to populated areas where it could’ve been catastrophic. It’s funny that this didn’t make the news last night, I guess people are still busy with all the Hayden Kho shit.

But this is something we shouldn’t take lightly. This kind of abnormal weather phenomenon is the effects of global warming and if we don’t do anything about it soon we may be seeing more than just waterspouts springing out of the wood work.

Someone actually reads my blog!

Posted in lifestyle, others on September 30, 2008 by rebelhunt

When I started this blog I wasn’t really expecting anyone to read it, let alone find it in the endless swamp of websites that flood the cyber world of the internet. However, yes however, when I attended a workshop at Powerbooks Megamall, they asked us to write down our blog sites along with our name and would you believe it, someone comes up to me and tells me that “Whatsonyourmind is yours? I’ve been there a couple of times.”

Okay, now that was really unexpected because as I’ve stated above, I wasn’t expecting anyone to be reading my posts. Well, it’s not like I don’t like it, I’m actually flattered. Yes, I know it may sound pathetic and shallow, but hey, I’m a pathetic and shallow guy so there. In some ways, it’s given me sort of a second wind to continue with this blog. I haven’t updated this blog for the longest time, but I guess that’s about to change right now.

I really don’t have anything meaningful to write now aside from this post which I should have written days ago. I guess being lazy does have it’s drawbacks but some things are hard to change. Anyways, I just want to thank the people who have read my blog, are reading my blogs, or just passing by.

On the subject of laziness

Posted in lifestyle, views on August 27, 2008 by rebelhunt

“I’m feeling so lazy today!”  That’s how we usually start our day on a normal work week.  Well, let’s face it, everyone feels lazy now and then, some feels lazier than some but still lazy nonetheless.  I was having a little chat with one of my officemates during our break with regards to laziness and what would be the best jobs for lazy people.  Now you don’t have to take everything here seriously, since our discussion was to kill time and was purely nonsense.  Anyway, going back to the subject of laziness, we thought of different jobs, most of them house based work.  But I was thinking that home based work won’t really work for someone who’s lazy.  Since lazy people just tend to lie around, face the boob tube for the whole day, I thought that the perfect job for lazy people would be to test out newly built homes.

What I mean by test is, they get to sleep, pig out and do everything what lazy people usual do, and that’s to stay home the whole day and do nothing but waste their time.  My friend was nodding in agreement adding that a report should be made regarding the condition of the house and what needs to be added or removed.  I know a lot what I’m saying here doesn’t make a lot of freaking sense, but this is my blog and I figure I get to say whatever I want to, and if you’ve read my post up to this point it’s either you’re interested in what I have to say, or just have nothing else to do. 🙂

Christmas Shopping

Posted in lifestyle with tags , , , , , on December 11, 2007 by rebelhunt

As Christmas draws even nearer, people are rushing to complete their Christmas shopping. I for one am not really in a hurry because, I don’t have to buy too many gifts. I’m only going to be buying gifts for a handful of people, aside from my relatives of course. So, for me Christmas shopping is somewhat something I enjoy since I’m not usually in a rush to get all the things that I need. Unlike some people who get stressed from diving into a crowd of people especially in Greenhills and Divisoria, it’s something like a leisure walk for me.

I know that it may sound weird, but I guess that’s just how I am. I particularly like to do my shopping at Greenhills, there are a good number of stalls that sell all sorts of different stuff, from shirts to shoes, toys and accessories. The prices are a bit more affordable compared to those at malls, and you can find a lot of very interesting things there. I do all of my Christmas shopping in one day, and I make sure that I have my list with me, because the last thing that I want to do is to go back because I forgot something or someone on the list.

Heavenly Dessert

Posted in food, lifestyle with tags , , , , , , on December 3, 2007 by rebelhunt

Just what is it with sweets these days? or is it just me? Once again I was treated to a delectable new taste treat last night. Well, it started when I accompanied a friend of mine after work, she went to buy a few stuff to sell here in the office; and when we came back she asked me if I wanted to eat. So, with nothing better to do anyway we went ahead and made our way to The Old Spaghetti House located just outside our office.

She ordered some pasta, I wanted to go with my regular order but since I was looking for something new, I ordered something different. It wasn’t what I ordered that was the highlight that night, rather it was what she ordered after our meal. It was chocolate truffle pie, it was the first time that I tasted it; but I immediately developed a taste for it. It was, so to speak “really good”.

The crust that was I guess made of a mixture of crushed grahams, some oatmeal, and some other ingredients that I couldn’t identify at that time. The luscious chewing chocolate center was what I loved the best simply because they didn’t make it too sweet, it was just perfect. And to top it all off, a creamy topping with splashes of caramel made the dessert complete.

At first glance, I thought that it would be your normal everyday cake; but I was completed overwhelmed when I took my first bite. Suffice to say, almost anyone; even people who don’t usually eat sweets ( save for diabetics.. ) is going to enjoy this little piece of heaven. Right now, I’m busy researching about it because I want to see if I could replicate or at least make a very good one myself.

Ah, yet another new discovery for me, and I’m sure this is not the last time I would be eating chocolate truffle pie. If you want to taste it for yourself, head down to the nearest Old Spaghetti House and order one, and you’ll get an idea of everything that I’ve just said in this post.
