Philippine Independence

Posted in lifestyle, others, views on June 14, 2010 by rebelhunt

Let’s be real here, most Filipinos today don’t even know the value of Independence day anymore. Don’t get me wrong, I’m one of those people who don’t think much about Independence day as well, not until this Independence weekend. I was spending the weekend at the condo of one of my bandmates and, while surfing through the channels on the television came across the movie Jose Rizal on GMA 7. It starred Cesar Montano and a wide array of famous Filipino celebrities.

I never really enjoyed home grown movies but I found myself stuck and watching the story of Philippines’ National Hero. It was really weird because I was watching what I used to sleep on during my high school days. History was never one of my favorite subjects.

For the first time I guess, I saw the oppression we went through during the time of the Spaniards. It was also a treat to see Crisostomo Ibarra / Simoun come to life thanks to actor Joel Torre who did the character justice. There I saw the passion and frustrations of Jose Rizal while fighting to free us from the grips of the Spaniards.

It’s a shame that most, if not all Filipinos have forgotten what our forefathers did to get our Independence. Now I call on all Filipinos to once again fight for Independence, not from foreign oppression, not from outside threats, but Independence from our corrupt and greedy government officials. Too long have our country been in the jaws of leaders who only think of their welfare.

Too long have these officials enjoyed the good life at our expense. For us to be truly free, we need to change the system to a system that works not only for those who hold power, but for everyone. Let’s make our Independence day mean something again.

That annoying thing called Love……

It’s funny… I have to admit that even though I try to avoid it I keep searching for it at the same time. Now that it’s here I’m not really sure what I should be doing because it’s driving me insane. What am I talking about? I’m talking about LOVE of course. I consider myself very unlucky when it comes to love that’s why I try to avoid it as much as possible because I almost always end up as a torn up, love struck idiot by the gutter and it’s not one of the best feelings believe me. However I found myself at the throws of love’s arms once again when I met this girl a few weeks back. I don’t know if there’s such a thing as love at first sight but I was totally taken when I glanced in her eyes.

ToyCon June 13, 2009 SM MegaMall

Posted in entertainment, news, others with tags , , on June 16, 2009 by rebelhunt

Being a toy collector, toy conventions are always a good place to look for good deals and hard to find toys and me and my officemates were really excited for this years ToyCon. Thinking back to the success of last year’s ToyCon I was really expecting this year’s ToyCon to be even more kick ass than last year. However, I was a bit disappointed and at the same time happy that I didn’t find any great toys today because it did help me keep my savings account fat and healthy. On the other hand I was really expecting to find a toy that would really beckon me to pull my ATM card out of my wallet and withdraw a healthy lump of cash for a toy that I couldn’t resist buying.

And of course who could forget the Cosplayers? ToyCons are never complete without these hardcore Otakus who parade their favorite characters with homemade costumes that are both amazing and sometimes painful on the eyes. I’m trying to be mean here but let’s face it, some of those costumes are not even worth a second look. But this year’s ToyCon did boast a lot of amazing Cosplayers that I found really impressive. A couple of my favorites were the Ranma 1/2 costumes, a hot Morrigan cosplayer, just browse through the pictures and you’ll see what I’m talking about.

Waterspout off Manila Bay May 27, 2009

Here in the Philippines we rarely get any freak weather phenomenon, and it’s a really big surprise if we did. Well, that surprise sure did happened yesterday at Manila Bay. People were both alarmed and amazed at this spectacle, which lasted about a couple of minutes. I was amazed and at the same time scared when I saw this. It was a good thing that the waterspout remained over water and didn’t decide to move to populated areas where it could’ve been catastrophic. It’s funny that this didn’t make the news last night, I guess people are still busy with all the Hayden Kho shit.

But this is something we shouldn’t take lightly. This kind of abnormal weather phenomenon is the effects of global warming and if we don’t do anything about it soon we may be seeing more than just waterspouts springing out of the wood work.

Someone actually reads my blog!

Posted in lifestyle, others on September 30, 2008 by rebelhunt

When I started this blog I wasn’t really expecting anyone to read it, let alone find it in the endless swamp of websites that flood the cyber world of the internet. However, yes however, when I attended a workshop at Powerbooks Megamall, they asked us to write down our blog sites along with our name and would you believe it, someone comes up to me and tells me that “Whatsonyourmind is yours? I’ve been there a couple of times.”

Okay, now that was really unexpected because as I’ve stated above, I wasn’t expecting anyone to be reading my posts. Well, it’s not like I don’t like it, I’m actually flattered. Yes, I know it may sound pathetic and shallow, but hey, I’m a pathetic and shallow guy so there. In some ways, it’s given me sort of a second wind to continue with this blog. I haven’t updated this blog for the longest time, but I guess that’s about to change right now.

I really don’t have anything meaningful to write now aside from this post which I should have written days ago. I guess being lazy does have it’s drawbacks but some things are hard to change. Anyways, I just want to thank the people who have read my blog, are reading my blogs, or just passing by.

Merry Xmas to the people at the NBI

Posted in others, views with tags , on November 26, 2007 by rebelhunt

Well, it’s that time of the year again when all of us start with our Christmas list, thinking of what to buy for who. Indeed, Xmas is in the air, everyone is practically into it including our favorite government department, the NBI. Our company and the NBI have had quite a history together, coz’ whenever the NBI needs the budget, they come here and raid our office for no apparent reason.

Just last Friday, Nov 23, 2007 we had another unexpected visit from our friends. The procedure was the usual, them coming in here and telling us not to turn our PC’s off and to quietly step out of our workstations. As usual they were being their brash, “tough man” image, thinking that they could intimidate us. Newsflash for all you @$$holes in the NBI, that style only works in the movies, and you’reĀ  just making your lower than scum image even worse.

Now, I’m not really sure if they had a warrant with them at that time, but come on now they really didn’t have to be such jerks if they wanted to check our computers. If they expect some respect from us, then it would only be appropriate that they treat us with respect as well. But that wasn’t the case, they went in here with their he-man attitude ordering everyone around like they were running the place. Hey, it was quite clear that all they wanted was a little mucho dinero for their Xmas shopping.

C’mon guys, the image of our government is bad enough! All you beer bellied lard heads are proving that money comes above everything? Don’t you people have any shame? But then again maybe you don’t. Now I’m sure the people at the NBI will look for some stupid reason to justify their actions, they always do, and the sad part is that they get away with it. It’s sad to imagine that this is what our country has become, and no one is doing a God damn thing about it.

Well to the NBI, who is busy doing a lot of things except their duties, have yourselves a Merry Xmas.

Best Drunk moment ever!!!

Posted in lifestyle, others on November 22, 2007 by rebelhunt

I don’t know why, but this blog is a little late considering the fact that the events I’m about to tell you happened last November 17, 2007. I guess I’m just lazy, or maybe it’s the fact that I just had to talk about what happened that day.. or should I say night. It was an outing with some of my friends at work, an outing that we spent weeks planning and yes, I was definitely excited.

So, the day started like any regular outing would, going to the meeting place at a designated time, well in our case we met up at the office and went to a friend’s house to prepare the food that we were suppose to eat once we got to our destination. The place by the way is LoreLand (hmm, I wonder if I spelled that right), in Antipolo; it’s a resort with about 5 to 7 pools. Anyway, so like I said, we went to a friend’s house to prepare everything before hitting our destination.

I won’t bore you with the details of what we were doing before hitting the booze and go right to the center of the action. We started our alcohol session at around 10pm, mainly because the guy in charge of the liquor arrived incredibly late. He had with him two long neck bottles of Grand Matador brandy, and to be honest I’m not really good with hard drinks; give me beer anytime but hard liquor always manages to screw my head.

We were having our first bottle while playing cards, and while waiting for the crowd to move away from the videoke machine ( a combination of a karaoke and video arcade unit). When we noticed the noise die down a little, we then proceeded to where the machine was located. By that time, we had finished the first bottle and I think there was just four of us drinking that time. I could already feel the effects of the alcohol, although it’s normal for me to get hit early on.

As we started our little singing session, I don’t know why but there was now only three of us left to finish off that one liter bottle of brandy, and like what I’ve said; I’m not too good when it comes to hard drinks. I was waiting for my song which was U2’s With or Without You, a favorite of one of the girls I was hoping to impress. But as fate would have it, impress her not was what happened, because by the time my song came up I was shouting the lyrics and cursing after every verse. I couldn’t even remember what happened after that. My friends told me that I was hogging the mike and singing songs I’m not even familiar with, and songs that I wouldn’t dare sing while I’m sober.

But it doesn’t end there, feeling that I was totally wasted, all I could think of right now was to just lie down and sleep the rest of the night away ( any drunk bastard would). So I managed to walk all the way back to our room only to find that it was locked, and being to drunk and too dizzy to walk back, my next option was the cottage right in front of the room. With that said, I laid myself down on the cottage bench and started snoozing away. I really didn’t care at that point, all I really wanted to do was to sleep, sleep, and sleep.

It wasn’t until some time that I could vaguely make out the voices of my friends, trying to wake me up and asking if I was okay. I was too tired and too drunk to answer let alone move to let them know that I was still alive. And it gets even better, when you’re drunk, sleeping outside, the last thing that you need is bad weather. Well that’s exactly what happened when it suddenly started to rain.

Again, my friends were trying to wake me up telling me to go inside the room, but like Sleeping Beauty on downers, I didn’t even move one inch. So, my good friends decided to make fun of this drunken schmuck by covering me up with pizza boxes, making me look like one of those poor, drunken bastards you see in the movies. I woke up the next day with a larger than life headache, everything was still spinning and the terrible realization that I just made a complete dick of myself in front of the one girl in the office that I really like.

We went home at around lunch time the November 18, and when I got home I slept until the next day. When I got to the office, my friends were singing With or Without You, very loud and very out of tune, their way of telling me how wasted I was that weekend. Well, as for the girl, we haven’t spoken to each other since that day, well not the way that we usually talk to each other anyway. But I don’t want to think about it, because for me it was the best drunk moment I ever had.
